Abstract

An investigation of heavy metal distribution in Corio Bay sediments showed that highest levels occured in sediments closest to the western shoreline, while lowest levels were nearest the eastern boundary. Distribution from the western shore and other shallow areas appeared related to sediment movement by waves, while in deeper areas it was attributed to movement of resuspended muds from shallows. Heavy metal contamination occurred to depths of 50cm.
