Detailed Summary

This project was designed with two overarching aims:
1. Evaluate the potential ecological impact of the acid flush events. The evaluation will compare the measured historical water quality values against established benchmarks and guidelines for aquatic ecosystem health. 


2. Evaluate the ecological and water quality outcomes of the artificial estuary opening. Specifically, the project will assess whether the artificial opening of 20 August 2025 improved estuarine water quality conditions in the Anglesea River. Parameters to be analysed include pH, salinity, and metal concentrations, drawing on datasets collected by the Arthur Rylah Institute, ALS laboratory analyses, CMA staff, EstuaryWatch volunteers, and hydrological monitoring stations. The evaluation will compare measured values against established benchmarks and guidelines for aquatic ecosystem health.
