Abstract Waterwatch is a national community water monitoring program which assists community groups to monitor water quality in their local waterways. A group from Camperdown College, Camperdown Vic monitors a range of water quality parameters in Lake Bullen Merri Vic including dissolved oxygen, pH, temperature, conductivity (EC), turbidity, phosphates and nitrates. The overall results for 2002 indicated that dissolved oxygen and turbidity were in the good to excellent range of Water Quality Guidelines for the Corangamite Region Vic. Lake Bullen Merri is classified as brackish with salinity levels greater than 8,000 EC. Orthophosphorous results were degraded for the lake, which is consistent with results from previous years. It is recommended that monthly monitoring continue to investigate long term trends in water quality. It is also recommended that revegetation activities around the banks of Lake Bullen Merri continue because they provide a buffer for nutrient runoff. Habitat surveys of all sitesshould also be conducted annually to assess changes in factors that influence water quality (A).
